We’ve all seen the proliferation of artistic content created by generative AI. From visual art to poetry to music, advanced technology is entering realms once thought to be solely the domain of human beings.
At the same time, clips of a TED talk by Ethan Hawke on the value of human creativity have begun to recirculate on social media. Hawke makes the point that art is “sustenance” and is “vital” to humans. What matters to him is not the artistic output, but the impulse toward self-expression as a means of healing, understanding, and connection.
The notion that it is the creative act rather than the final product that matters is not new, but perhaps is newly relevant. It’s a philosophy echoed in several of our books that nurture readers’ creativity. See below for some of our top titles or click here for a more complete list.
