The end of winter is in sight, and, as gardeners know, it’s time for planting once the ground thaws. In recent years, younger generations have taken up gardening, and Millennials are now the largest group of gardeners in the U.S. Many came to the hobby during lockdown in 2020, but the shift has been observed for over a decade. Since they’re less likely to own a home with a full yard, Millennial and Gen Z gardeners are more often using small plots, containers, and indoor gardening to grow their vegetables, herbs, flowers, and houseplants.
Gardening is also tied to emotional and environmental wellbeing, with many focusing on composting, sustainability, attracting pollinators, improving air quality, and growing harmoniously with the existing landscape.
